USC Men and Women Lead After Day One of TYR Pacific Invite

STOCKTON, California, October 20. THE No. 7 USC men's and women's swim teams led the four-team competition after 14 events of the 2006 TYR Pacific Invitational at Pacific's Chris Kledsjen pool in Stockton, Calif., on Friday.

Sophomore Amanda Weir won the 50y (22.99) and 200y free (1:48.39) to lead the women's squad while senior Larsen Jensen won the 200y (1:40.69) and 1650y free (15:28.19) to lead the men.

The latter time was an NCAA consideration time for Jensen in an event in which he won two years ago at the NCAA Championships. Weir's times were also NCAA consideration, though she has already posted NCAA automatic times in both events earlier this year.
The USC men have recorded 463 points, while the USC women have recorded 508 points, both first-place totals.

Sophomore Missy McIntyre won the 100y breast in 1:02.56, an NCAA consideration mark (though she went slightly under that time already this year). Senior Kalyn Keller won the women's mile in 16:30.59, another NCAA consideration time. She won the NCAA title in the race as a freshman in 2004. Weir, primarily a sprinter, took second in the mile in 16:41.95, checking in with her own NCAA `B' cut.

Other winners for the men included senior Richard Gosper in the 50y free (20.72) and senior Mihaly Flaskay in the 100y breast (56.03). Both squads also swept the 200y medley and 400y free relays.
