Ohlgren Named a 2006 McDonald’s-Powerade “Tomorrow’s Winner”

DETROIT, Michigan, October 18. AUBURN freshman swimmer Ava Ohlgren was one of 10 student-athletes selected as a 2006 McDonald’s-Powerade Tomorrow’s Winners by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. The award will be presented at the MSHOF 52nd annual induction dinner on Oct. 30, at Cobo Conference & Exhibition Center.

The winners were selected based on academic and athletic achievement by a committee of veteran local and out-of-state sports journalists.

“I am honored to be selected as one of the 10 recipients of this award,” Ohlgren said. “It is always special to be honored by those in your home community and I am proud to accept this award. My training at Auburn has been going well and I am looking forward to the rest of our season.”

A 2006 Northville High School graduate, Ohlgren competed at the 2004 Olympic Trials and was ranked second nationally in the 200 IM and fourth in the 400 IM. A three-time Scholastic All-American and two-time All-American, she is the Michigan state record holder in the 200 IM.

At the 2006 Senior National Championships, Ohlgren was a B finalist in the 200m IM and 400m IM and won the C final of the 200m free. For her performance, Ohlgren was named to the 2007 U.S. Pan American Games roster.
