Pechanova, Bircher Conclude FINA Marathon World Cup Series with 19th Stop Wins

SETUBAL, Portugal, October 16. CZECH Jana Pechanova and Great Britain’s Alan Bircher concluded the FINA Open Water Marathon World Cup series with wins in the 19th stop in Setubal, Portugal.

Pechanova claimed the women’s title in 2:14:06 to finish well ahead of Russia’s Anna Uvarova’s second-place effort of 2:14:21. Meanwhile, Germany’s Britta Kamrau-Corestein, the women’s series champion this season, pocketed bronze in 2:16:54.

On the men’s side of the ticket, Bircher stopped the clock in 2:02:04 to beat South African Shaun Dias (2:02:22). Meanwhile, Czech Jakub Fichtl rounded out the top three with a 2:02:23.

The Marathon World Cup series is now complete. Kamrau-Corestein and Bulgarian Petar Stoychev wrapped up the season as the overall titlists.
