American University Hosts Potomac Relays

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 14. THE American University swimming and diving teams opened their seasons by capturing four victories at the Potomac Relays Friday. The Eagle men won the 500 free, 200 medley and 300 fly, while the women captured the 1000 free.

Chris Leggett led the men's 200 free relay off with a team-best 21.59 split and Matt Pelletier, Matt Bank and Joe Coronato did the rest as the men combined for a time of 1:27.14 for the win. Leggett, Pelletier and Bank later won the 300 fly in 2:38.83. The three paired with freshman Michael DiDonato for a winning time of 1:39.41 in the 200 medley as well. The men also took a runner-up in the 500 free as Leggett and Coronato teamed with freshman Mike Toran and Jon Bateman for a time of 4:24.23.

The women's team got their lone win of the day from the team of Meghan Thiel and freshman Gabi Feibel in the 1000 free relay. The two combined for a time of 10:20.35, more than 18 seconds faster than the runner-up. Feibel and Thiel raced alongside Kaitlin Moughty and Molly Bohmer in the 500 free where they took third in a time of 4:48.09. In addition, Thiel, Erin Devlin and Julia Anstadt placed third in the 300 breast with a time of 3:31.08.
