Baumann to Helm Canadian Olympic Committee’s Road to Excellence Program

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 26. ACCORDING to CBC Sports reports, former Canadian Olympian Alex Baumann will be unveiled as the head of the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Road to Excellence program on Wednesday.

Baumann put himself on the swimming map with a pair of gold-medal winning world records in the 200 and 400 IM at the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. They were the first gold medals in men’s swimming for the country since 1912. After retiring in 1987, Baumann moved to Australia, where he helped the country become a perennial global power.

The Road to Excellence program is an overarching plan to help Canada revive its stature within the world ranks in the Summer Olympic and Paralympic competitions.
