Norman Blake Takes Over USOC

Norman Blake regrets he never had the athletic ability to contend for anything more than a fill-in spot on his high school wrestling team. But the new chief executive officer of the U.S. Olympic Committee will share one characteristic with every member of the USA’s team at the Sydney Games — an unrelenting drive. Blake, 58, reports to work Monday in Colorado Springs, less than 48 hours after he was handed the hard hat to engineer the overhaul of the multi-layered organization. He has given himself 90 days to come up with a strategic plan, and his track record suggests his run at the USOC will be more a sprint than a marathon. His contract is for just three years.
