Strong Efforts Posted at Houston Speedo Champions Series

HOUSTON, Texas, July 28. CONNIE Brown opened the evening in style during the Houston Speedo Champions Series Sectional on Friday as she nailed down an Olympic Trial cut in the 100-meter backstroke with a 1:04.47.

The men returned first in the 100 back as Mustang Jon Berrettini and Kevin Braud both surpassed the Olympic Trial cut in the event. Berrettini touched first in 57.74, while Braud placed second in 57.96.

Mustang Spindrift Beck kept the momentum going as the raced to an Olympic Trial cut of her own in 2:34.66 to win the 200-meter breaststroke, before Scott Murphy earned a win in the 200 breast with a 2:25.47.

Beth McCullough and Colleen Gordon battled in the 400-meter freestyle with McCullough coming out on top in 4:20.05, while Gordon clocked a 4:20.75. Both efforts cleared the national cut.

Ryan Loney and Ryan Latone posted another pair of national cuts on the men’s side of the 400 free as Loney claimed gold in 4:02.78 and Latone picked up silver in 4:02.88.

Another pair of swimmers cleared the national cut in the 100-meter butterfly as Heather Brand (1:02.62) and Carol McElhany (1:02.86) went head-to-head throughout the race.

Andrew Wang closed out the night with a win in the 100 fly with a 56.72 clocking.
