NCAA Women's Swimming: UCLA Defeats Washington State -- January 20, 2000
Westwood, CA - The UCLA women's swim team improved its dual meet record to 4-2 (1-2 Pac-10) on Saturday morning (Jan. 15) at Men's Gym Pool, defeating Washington State, 168-90. The meet was contested in meters.
Bruin freshman Erin Zehntner was one of two athletes to win two events on the day, turning in a 2:04.75 to win the 200 Free and a 4:21.54 to win the 400 Free. UCLA had the top finisher in 10 of the 14 official events. For the Cougars, All-American Erin Eldridge was a double-event winner, taking the 100 Breast in 1:11.55 to beat the NCAA?s B qualifying standard, and won the 200 Breast in 2:35.57.
For UCLA, two athletes had B-Standard NCAA qualifying times, as Katie Younglove won the 200 Fly in 2:15.91 and Beth Goodwin took the 100 Fly in 1:02.19. Also notable was the performance of senior captain Keiko Price, who won the 100 Free in 57.97. Price, who also won the exhibition 200 IM in 2:21.47, is undefeated in the 100 Free during the 1999-2000 season.
UCLA women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Fri., Jan. 28, and Sat., Jan. 29, when they play host to Stanford and Cal, respectively. Friday's Stanford meet is set to begin at 2 p.m., while the Cal meet will begin at Noon. Both meets will be contested at Men's Gym Pool.
