Britain’s Best to Compete in National Age Group Championships

LONDON, England, July 25. THE Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Swimming Championships get underway on Thursday when more than 700 of Britain's most promising youngsters gather in Sheffield with national honors at stake.

Potential 2012 Olympians, aged 11 to 14, will compete over four days for national titles at Ponds Forge, home of the city's 50m pool.

The Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships are the main point of the summer season for age group swimmers and athletes earmarked as Olympians of the future will be in action.

It follows a successful European Junior Championships in Spain earlier this month where many of last year's age group swimmers delivered a record-setting performance for Britain away from home.

Now, the next generation will be expected to use the Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships to reveal themselves as the future of the sport in this country.

As well as national titles, swimmers also will be able to gain qualification to the English Talent Development Program. This program is responsible for identifying, nurturing and developing talent for tomorrow's Olympics.

The Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships will lead into the ASA National and Youth Championships to run in Sheffield from Aug. 1-6.
