China Remains on Top at FINA Diving World Cup

CHANGSHU, China, July 21. THE Chinese contingent remained supreme during the third day of competition at the 15th-Annual FINA Diving World Cup in Changshu, China on Thursday. The duo of Jia Tong and Chen Ruolin cruised to gold in the women’s synchronized platform competition with a 360.42, while Wang Fen and He Chong captured gold in men’s synchronized three-meter action with a 446.73.

No one could doubt Tong and Ruolin’s dominance as the pair claimed one 10 during the third round and never dipper lower than a 7.5 throughout the finals competition. The Chinese saved their best dive for last to tally 86.70 points with a back 2.5 somersault with 1.5 twists to secure victory.

Additionally, Japan’s Mai Nakagawa and Misako Yamashita picked up silver with a 302.70, while Canada’s Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito nabbed bronze with a 297.99.

Meanwhile on the men’s side of the evening, Feng and Chong had a much closer battle as they held off Americans Mitch Richeson and Troy Dumais for the title. The Chinese picked up their biggest dive in the fifth round with an 87.72 total on an inward 3.5 somersault to push their lead to 16.20 points. They then closed out the night with a reverse 2.5 somersault with 1.5 twists to claim the 18.30-point conquest.

Richeson and Dumais settled for silver with 428.43 points, the best finish for an American at the event thus far, while Germany’s team of Tobias Schellenberg and Andreas Wels posted a bronze effort with 393.30 points.
