Virginia Tech Tabs Piemonte as Diving Coach

BLACKSBURG, Va., July 10. RON Piemonte, the head coach of the Moss Farms Diving Tigers in Moultrie, Ga., was hired as the Virginia Tech head diving coach on Monday.

While with the Tigers, Piemonte helped qualify seven divers in all three events at the 2005 USA Diving Junior National Championships. The team finished the event in seventh place. In 2005, Piemonte assisted a diver to the Senior National championships, while in 2003 he coached a diver to a bronze medal at the Junior Pan-American Championships in Belem, Brazil.

Prior to coaching the Tigers, Piemonte served as head coach at the Tualatin Hills Dive Club in Beaverton, Ore., for nine years. In 2000, Piemonte had a diver final at the Olympic Trials. While at Tualatin Hills, Piemonte coached the 1992 and 1999 Junior World Championships teams and earned a top-10 Junior Olympic coach ranking by the International Olympic Committee of USA Diving.

Piemonte also served as the head coach for the Arizona Diving Club in Phoenix, Ariz., the New Mexico Divers in Albuquerque, N.M., and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. He is the current vice president of junior diving for USA Diving.

Piemonte graduated from Arizona State University in 1986. He has been married for 20 years and has three children.

Piemonte replaces Bert Locklin, who took another position within the department.
