Major Names Headed to Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, California, June 20. JUST two days remain before the 39th edition of the Santa Clara International Swim Meet begins. Once again, the competition is loaded with premier names, many of which are preparing for August’s United States Nationals and the Pan Pacific Championships that will follow shortly after in British Columbia.

Aside from the United States, top athletes from Australia and South Africa are expected to compete. Whether Ian Thorpe is among the international stars in attendance remains to be seen. Thorpe is slotted into a handful of events, but has given no clue as to whether he’s ready to make his return to competition after battling glandular fever and a broken hand.
