Two National H.S. Records For Illinois’ St. Charles High

The St. Charles High School girls swim team won its sixth straight Illinois state high school title last November sparked by Kristen Brennan, the most successful swimmer in state high school history. Competing in Winnetka, IL at New Trier High School on November 20, St. Charles edged host New Trier 186 to 182 for the state title.

Brennan, who was voted Female Swimmer of the Year, won four events for the third straight year, making her the winningest high school female swimmer in Illinois history. Kristen’s state record in the 100 free, 50.10, washed away the old mark of 50.16. She also took the 50 free in 23.21.

The St. Charles freestyle relay team won both events in record times. Ashley Seymour, Christine Anderson, Laura Lipskis and Kristen Brennan won the 200 freestyle relay after setting a national high school record of 1:34.54 in prelims. The old mark, 1:34.63, was set by The Peddie School in 1995.

In the 400 free relay, the same team broke the second oldest record in the book when it clocked 3:26.01. The old national public school record, 3:26.48, was set by Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1982, before most of the St. Charles girls were born.
