Phil Whitten Accepts New Assignment; Swimming World Magazine Searches for New Hire -- May 3, 2006

Phoenix Ariz., May 3. SPORTS Publications International, publisher of Swimming World Magazine, SwimmingWorldMagazine.com (formerly SwimInfo.com) and SwimmingWorld.TV will begin an immediate job search for an Executive Managing Editor to replace Phil Whitten who accepted a position with the College Swim Coaches Association of America.

Phil Whitten accepted the position of Executive Director for the College Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) today. It was reported that Mr. Whitten was one of four to make it to the final selection process. Final details of his contract have yet to be determined.

“We wish Phil well in his new position, and thank him for his many years with Sports Publications International," commented Dick Deal Publisher of Swimming World Magazine. Phil Whitten stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of Sports Publications to become the Chief Media Officer in 2005 so he could spend more time with his family and begin grooming replacements for his responsibilities.

“We knew Phil wanted to take on new challenges and we supported him every step of the way”, added Brent Rutemiller, CEO for Sports Publications International. “We hired four people in anticipation of his transition over a year ago. John Lohn, Dave Denniston, and Emily Mason teamed together to expand content on our media properties and Glenn Mills took over the technique aspects of our publications. We also launched SwimmingWorld.TV during this period under the leadership of Peter Busch.

“Phil Whitten will always be a part of Swimming World Magazine and in some ways his new role is just an extension of our current relationship since Swimming World Magazine is the official publication of the CSCAA,” concluded Rutemiller.
