Thorpe Recovering from Broken Bone in Hand

SYDNEY, Australia, April 27. IAN Thorpe can’t seem to catch a break of late, unless it’s a break he doesn’t want. Having backed out of the Commonwealth Games due to illness, Thorpe is now recovering from a broken bone in his right hand. The injury was suffered during a fall in his home and was reported by Nicole Jeffery of The Australian.

Thorpe is expected to return to the pool next week and will resume training for the Mare Nostrum Series, where Thorpe plans on making his international return. Thorpe may not be ready to contest the first stop on the series, scheduled for Monte Carlo for June 3-4. Thorpe still remains scheduled to compete at the Santa Clara Invitational in late June.

Reports have also indicated that Thorpe is searching for homes in the Los Angeles area that could serve as a residence while he trains in the United States and seeks out more competitions in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Thorpe is the two-time defending Olympic champ in the 400 freestyle and won the 200 free in Athens.
