Industry News: Lochte Signs Deal with Octagon

MCLEAN, Virginia, April 19. OCTAGON today announced the signing of Olympic medalist and three-time world record holder Ryan Lochte to a full representation agreement. Lochte, a two-time NCAA Swimmer of the Year at the University of Florida, is a versatile talent who excels in both short and long course disciplines.

“Ryan is a world class swimmer who has displayed the ability to compete at an elite level,” said Peter Carlisle, Octagon’s Director of Olympic & Action Sports. “Ryan posses a great combination of talent and personality and will be a great storyline leading into Beijing in 2008.”

Lochte, 21, garnered Olympic gold in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay and silver in the 200 individual medley at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Recently, Lochte captured three gold medals at the 2006 FINA Short Course World Championships in Shanghai, China, shattering three world records in the process. Lochte won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and was a member of the 400 medley relay. Turning in a dominant performance, Lochte was the recipient of the FINA Trophy for the Best Male Athlete at the Short Course World Championships.

A native of Daytona Beach, Florida, Lochte is one of the most decorated swimmers in SEC and Florida history. He concluded his stellar four-year career as a Gator with 24 All-American honors, seven NCAA Championships, seven SEC titles and the school record in five individual and four relay events. Lochte is a three-time SEC Male Swimmer of the Year and was named the 2005 Roy F. Kramer Male Athlete of the Year, the SEC’s highest honor.

Lochte bolsters an already impressive Octagon Olympic swimming roster including superstar Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff and Ian Crocker. Much like Phelps and Crocker’s longstanding rivalry in the 100 fly, Lochte appears to be Phelps’ most formidable opponent in the 200 I.M.

“I am thrilled to partner with Octagon and Peter Carlisle,” said Lochte. “Octagon has consistently demonstrated the ability to successfully market Olympic athletes in a number of sports. I am also excited about helping elevate the profile of swimming through the ‘Swim with the Stars’ tours and camps.”
