Bolles’ Pinzon Goes Faster Than Two NAG Records

ORLANDO, Florida, March 14. REPRESENTING the Bolles School Sharks at the Speedo Southern Sectional Championships in Orlando over the weekend, 16-year-old Omar Pinzon went faster than a pair of 15-16 National Age Group records. Pinzon, from Colombia, posted his times in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke and also supplied a solid time in the 200 individual medley. He is ineligible, however, for the NAG marks, which go only to United States citizens.

During Saturday’s competition, Pinzon clocked 48.12 in the 100 back to go faster than the record of Kyle Bubolz, the current Northwestern star who went 48.15 in 2003. A day later, Pinzon clocked in at 1:44.05 to go more than a second under the 1:45.10 mark of Patrick Schirk from 2004. Schirk now competes for Penn State. For good measure, Pinzon also won the 200 I.M. with a swim of 1:48.40.
