Young Talent Shines Through at SPEEDO Champions Eastern Section of the Southern Zone

NASHVILLE, Tenn. March 13. OLYMPIANS took to the pool at this year's SPEEDO Champions Eastern Section of the Southern Zone this past weekend. Rachel Komisarz and Maritza Correia hit the water to race some young up-and-coming talent at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tennessee. In combined scores, the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club dominated the competition with 1,135.5 points over the Lakeside Seahawks (901). Dynamo Swim Club came in a distant third with 589 points.

Olympians presence aside, Elaine Breeden was the overall high-point winner on the women's side with 128 points over Kirsten Smith with 121. Breeden placed second in nearly every event to Olympian's Correia or Komisarz. Her first victory of the meet came in the 100 butterfly, where she posted a very fast 52.65 to beat out Komisarz 52.71 for first place. She went on to capture the 200 buttefly as well, with a very solid 1:57.02.

On the Men's side, MAC standout Ricky Berens took the high-point award with 114 points over Robert Margalis with 109. Berens took top honors in four events, winning the 50 and 100 freestyles, as well as the 100 and 200 butterfly. His butterfly times were particularly fast, as he posted a blistering 47.22 in the 100, and a 1:45.60 in the 200.
