1999 MPSF Men's Water Polo Championships: UCLA 12, Stanford 11 (OT) -- November 30, 1999

UCLA’s Blake Wellen connected from two meters out with 0:01 second remaining in the second overtime period to give the Bruins a 12-11 win over Stanford in the MPSF Championship game.

UCLA trailed 10-9 with under two minutes to play in regulation when sophomore Jeff Pflueger skipped a goal past Stanford keeper Arik Goodman to knot the score at 10-10. The Bruin defense held the Cardinal for the duration of the period to force overtime.

Stanford drew first blood in the extra frames, with Peter Hudnut connecting on a lob shot. Wellen, however, got the best of the Cardinal defense in the second overtime period, hitting twice, including the game-winner with one tick left on the clock.

After a timeout, Stanford’s shot tipped off of the top post, sealing the victory for the Bruins as time expired.
