Tulane Women Tackle Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. February, 12. THE Green Wave posted six season-best times, including a lifetime best by sophomore Cara Davidoff in the 100-yard breaststroke as the Tulane University women’s swimming and diving team defeated Centenary College, 103-74, Saturday afternoon in Shreveport, La.

Tulane won 10 of the 11 individual events, and posted top times in both relay events as exhibition heats as the Green Wave claimed their second dual-meet victory of the 2005-06 season. The meet is the final event for the Green Wave prior to the 2006 Conference USA Tournament, which is slated to start on Feb. 22 at the University of Houston.

“This was our least meet before conference and we had some girls swim off events today,” Tulane head coach Daniella Irle said. “It was a good meet for us overall. I think we gained a little confidence going into the conference meet, and I’ve got to really thank Centenary for adding us to their schedule so late in the year.”

Sophomore Tiffany Brown posted a pair of victories, winning the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 25.47 and 5:08.68, respectively, and fellow second-year standout Leeann Laing also posted two top times with a 1:58.19 in the 200 free and a 4:33.96 in the 400 IM.

In addition, sophomore Linda McEachrane won the 100 back (1:03.58) and 200 breast (2:29.49), and junior Amanda Williams emerged victorious in both the 200 back (2:12.01) and 200 fly (2:14.84). Rookie Victoria Givens won the 100 free (54.17) and fellow freshman Lauren Chinault claimed the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.91.

In the relay events, the quartet of Davidoff, Brown, Givens and McEachrane posted the top time in the 200 free with a mark of 1:41.24, and the tandem of Brown, Givens, Kate Naglick and McEachrane did the same in the 200 medley with a showing of 1:51.02.
