By Dave Denniston

CARLSBAD, California, January 26. The Longhorns are going to Tucson; The Pac-10 is taking the weekend off; and Florida looks to prove that it will contend for a title this weekend in college swimming. Minnesota is hosting Big Ten rivals Purdue and Wisconsin at home in what should be a very fast meet. Look for several of the younger swimmers to start coming out of the woodwork in an attempt to qualify for the Big Dance.

1. Auburn: Florida State is coming to the plains to take on #1 Auburn. After another nail-biter last weekend in Gainesville, Auburn will use this meet to tune up for the SEC Championship in a few weeks.

2. Stanford: After back-to-back victories against Cal and ASU last weekend, the Cardinal is taking this weekend off.

3. Cal Berkeley: The Bears are also taking this weekend off.

4. Michigan: The Wolverines have a busy weekend planned. Saturday, Ohio State will compete at the Canham Natatorium. Michigan will then jump on a bus and head to Bloomington, Indiana to battle the Hoosiers.

5. Arizona: The Texas Longhorns are coming to the desert for a two-day competition against the Wildcats. Both teams have suffered close losses the last two weeks and are looking put another "w" on the board. These two teams match up very evenly and will again be in for a close battle.

6. Florida: The Gators are going to Tennessee to go head-to-head with the Vols. Look for more impressive performances out of Ryan Lochte, while Tennessee backstrokers try to hold off Florida.

7.Texas: Eddie Reese's Longhorns are gearing up to put guys on the NCAA roster as they head to Arizona. Expect some fast swims over this two-day competition.

8. Minnesota: Purdue and Wisconsin will be coming to Minneapolis for a two-day competition. The tri-meet should feature fast swimmers in every event, as these three schools challenge each other for tops spots in the Big Ten.

9. Southern California: The Trojans are taking this weekend off.

10.Indiana: The Hoosiers will welcome Michigan to Bloomington on Sunday for a rescheduled meet. This will be a huge opportunity for the Hoosiers to move up in the rankings if they can nudge out the Wolverine distance powerhouse.
