Richmond’s Jessica Witt Earns Her Third Weekly A-10 Honor

RICHMOND, Va. January, 17. SOPHOMORE Jessica Witt picked up her third weekly honor from the Atlantic 10, officials announced Monday afternoon. Witt was named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week along with Elena Ramirez of Saint Louis, who was named the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Witt, who has also earned the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor Oct. 31 and Nov. 22, placed her name among three new all-time record lists at Richmond. Last season’s A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie has now placed her name among eight all-time individual Top-10 lists at Richmond. The Fullerton, Calif., native notched a second-place finish in the 200 free last week in 1:53.05 to place her 10th all-time for the Spiders. She later took part in the 200 fly and 200 back events for the first time this season. Her 200 fly time of 2:06.10 earned her second-place, was a team season-best, and placed her named fourth all-time in the event. Her 2:03.98 in the 200 back was a gold-medal time against Rutgers as well as another team season-best. The 2:03.98 also ranked sixth-best all-time for the Spiders in the 200 back.

Witt capped off the evening in Piscataway, N.J., in a three-way duel against Rutgers, Seton Hall and Rider, with a 2:07.88 in the 200 IM to win the event.

The Spiders did fall to the 25th-ranked Scarlet Knights, 172-117, as only Richmond/Rutgers scores were kept in the four-team event.

Richmond now returns home for its only two home events of the season. The Spiders will host William & Mary, Saturday, Jan. 28, and Navy, Saturday, Feb. 4 in the Robins Center Natatorium. Both duels are scheduled to have swimming events begin at 2 p.m. Admission to both events will be free.
