British Swimming Backs Sweetenham

LONDON, England, January 15. BILL Sweetenham, the embattled National Performance Director of British Swimming, will coach the British squad at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Accused of bullying tactics by a handful of swimmers in recent months, Sweetenham was found innocent of the allegations and there will be no further probing into the claims.

The board of British Swimming has given its support to Sweetenham, who will spend the next two-plus years preparing for the Beijing Games. Sweetenham is known for his demanding and this approach ruffled the feathers of some athletes. The majority of Great Britain’s swimmers, however, backed Sweetenham and preferred he remain in command of the nation’s swimming program. The board of British Swimming met with Sweetenham to indicate its support.
