Coyne Breaks 25-29 Masters Record in 50 Butterfly

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colorado, January 9. OVER the weekend, Brendan Coyne established a Masters record in the 25-29 age group for the 50-yard butterfly. Racing at the Highlands Ranch Masters Invitational in Colorado, the 2002 University of Wisconsin graduate clocked 22.09 for the 50 fly. The swim arrived in the first half of a 100-yard race.

Earlier in the competition, Coyne registered a clocking of 22.17 in the fly, which was just off the 2003 record of Neil Peiffer (22.16). So, in his 100 fly race, Coyne opted to attack the record in the opening two legs, a decision that obviously worked out. A 25-year-old, Coyne was competing in his first United States Masters competition.
