LOS ANGELES, CA - USC freshman Erik Vendt shattered a 13-year old pool record in the 1650y freestyle to highlight the final day of the USC Invitational at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 30).
Vendt, one of the top recruits in the country this year, swam a 14:54.30, crushing the old mark of 15:10.74 set by former Trojan Dan Jorgensen on Nov. 11, 1986.
Vendt also led off USC's 800y freestyle relay (which also included junior Philippe Demers, freshman Jeff Lee and sophomore Mark Warkentin), which set a pool record in 6:40.57. The old mark was 6:45.60, set in 1984.
On the women's side, freshman Michala Kwasny (4:14.31, 400y IM), Asa Sandlund (16:29.95, 1650y freestyle) and sophomore Kristin MaGregor (1:03.20, 100y breaststroke) all posted wins for the Trojans.
Chad Carvin, swimming for the Mission Viejo Nadadores, set his second pool mark of the meet, turning in a 3:51.69 in the 400y IM, beating a nine-year old mark.
