Schneider Wants her German Record in 400 I.M. Wiped Out -- December 23, 2005
|BERLIN, Germany, December 23. PETRA Schneider, who was one of the leading East German women at the time when doping was a regular occurrence in the country, has indicated that she wants her German record in the 400-meter individual medley to be erased. Schneider spoke of her desire in an interview with a German television station.
The 1980 Olympic gold medalist in the 400 I.M., Schneider recorded her national-record time in 1982 when she clocked in at 4:36.10 during the World Championships in Ecuador. At the same competition, Schneider earned gold in the 200 individual medley.
"My record is only a record of the past. I would like the current record list to be started afresh," Schneider said. "My record was influenced by doping.”
