YMCA of Triangle Area Sets 15-16 National Age-Group Record in 200 Free Relay

RALEIGH, N.C., December 21. COMPETING at the Speedo Capital Classic earlier this month, the YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team blasted the National Age-Group record in the 15-and-16 category in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Racing at the Pullen Aquatic Center, Triangle Area clocked a time of 1:33.92, well under the former record of 1:35.00. That standard, set by the Dallas Mustangs, had lasted since 2001.

Teresa Long got YOTA off to a sizzling start with a split of 23.24 and Jessalyn Crawford kept the speed burning on the second leg with a split of 23.95. Crawford was followed by Mandy Myers, who checked in with a third-leg performance of 23.07 and Candace Cooper brought the squad home with a split of 23.66. The team, coached by Ron Turner, entered with a seed time of 1:35.47.
