Hoff Takes Down Another Age-Group Record at NBAC Christmas Invitational -- December 11, 2005 After the final of 200IM showing the strain in Athens

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, December 11. ADD another accolade to the eye-popping resume of Katie Hoff. The reigning world champion in the 200 and 400 individual medley events, Hoff lowered her own 15-16 age-group record in the 400-yard I.M. on Saturday night, accomplishing the feat at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club Christmas Invitational.

Swimming away from the field from the start, Hoff negotiated the race in 4:03.46, not far off the American record of Summer Sanders, who went 4:02.28 while competing for Stanford at the 1992 NCAA Championships. The 16-year-old Hoff, coached by Paul Yetter at NBAC, moved into the second slot all-time in the event.

Not surpisingly, Hoff has been splendid at this annual competition, evident in her opening-night triumphs in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Hoff also won the 500 free on Saturday night with a sensational effort of 4:38.89. Hoff’s NBAC teammate, Courtney Kalisz, was second in both the 400 I.M. and 500 free, registering times of 4:17.21 and 4:53.70.
