Beck Sets Texas 13-14 Record in 200 Individual Medley

DALLAS, Texas, November 30. AT the recent Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association North Zone Meet, 14-year-old Spindrift Beck posted a pair of sizzling times, including a state age-group record in the 200 individual medley. Winning the 200 I.M. in 2:02.46, Beck set a 13-14 standard, breaking the former mark of Olympian Dana Vollmer (2:04.10).

Beck, a freshman at The Hockaday School (Dallas), also took top honors in the 100 breaststroke, thanks to a time of 1:03.51. Beck trains with the Dallas Mustangs and is coached by Mook Rhodenbaugh. She was invited to this year’s USA Swimming National Select Camp.

In addition to Beck, Scott Spann delivered a strong outing in the 100 breaststroke, as he clocked in at 57.38 for victory. Spann recently decided to take his talents to Michigan University, where he’ll add breaststroke power to Bob Bowman’s squad.
