Asphalt Green’s Swim for the Future to Feature Keller and Gaines

NEW YORK, November 8. TWO-time Olympian Klete Keller and triple-Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines will host the fifth annual Swim For the Future fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 6-10 p.m. in New York. The event is the creation of Asphalt Green, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to assisting individuals of various ages and backgrounds in achieving health through sports and fitness.

Swim for the Future will honor the lives of Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang, Asphalt Green Masters swimmers who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Funds raised through Swim for the Future will provide financial support for young New York City swimmers who are trying to pursue their competitive dreams in the sport.

An Olympian Tips Lane will feature Keller and Gaines providing instruction to younger swimmers, and a diving clinic will be given by Olympian Scott Donie. Additionally, the fundraiser will include a silent auction, a Kids-Only Swim Zone and a station in which youngsters can decorate their own swim cap. Over the years, money raised has led to more than 30 scholarships for kids to swim on Asphalt Green’s competitive age-group team.

Participants in Swim for the Future raise money based on donations for each lap they complete or as one-time, tax-deductible gift to Asphalt Green. For more information, visit www.swimforthefuture.kintera.org or call (212) 369-8890, ext. 232.
