Adam Mitchell Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, October 26. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota senior swimmer Adam Mitchell was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week yesterday by the conference office. Mitchell won all three of his individual events in the Gophers' 224-66 win over Iowa on Friday.

Mitchell cruised to wins in the 200 butterfly (1:50.64), 200 breaststroke (2:04.85) and the 200 individual medley (1:50.86). In addition, the six-time All-American swam the butterfly leg on the victorious 200 medley relay.

This is the third time Mitchell has earned the conference award in his career. He earned the laurel twice during the 2003-04 season as a sophomore.

Mitchell and the 11th-ranked Golden Gophers take on ninth-ranked Indiana on Saturday at University Aquatic Center. The Gophers and Hoosiers went to the wire at the 2005 Big Ten Championships with Minnesota winning the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, to clinch a second straight Big Ten crown. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
