Brits Drop Appeal -- September 18, 1996

The British Olympic Association (BOA) plans to drop its appeal of the Olympic decision that denied Nick Gillingham a bronze medal. Gillingham finished fourth behind Russia's Andrei Korneyev in the 200-meter breaststroke in Atlanta, and was promoted to third by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after Korneyev tested positive for bromantan. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reversed the IOC ruling to deny Korneyev his medal. The BOA had appealed the decision.
