Noemie Thomas’ Top 15 50 Fly Takes Spotlight In First Two Days at Canadian Nationals

SASKATOON, Canada, July 17. IT’s been a busy two days in Saskatoon so far at the Canadian Summer Nationals, with Noemie Thomas headlining the swims thus far.

DAY ONE
Noemie Thomas ripped off a 26.23 to win the women’s 50-meter fly. That time shot her from 16th in the world with a 26.33 to 12th in the SwimVortex world rankings. Samantha Corea touched second in the sprint fly with a 26.49, while Caroline Lapierre-Lemire earned third in 27.07.

Island’s Eric Hedlin won the men’s 800-meter free with a time of 8:05.25, while Kier Maitland took second in 8:06.71. Philippe Guertin claimed third overall in 8:08.37. Cameron Kidd topped the men’s 50-meter fly in 24.24 with Rohan Jacobs earning second in 24.54. Matthew Dans placed third in 24.62.

Danica Ludlow hit the wall in 2:01.43 to top the women’s 200-meter free. Barbara Jardina (2:01.74) and Jessica Plant (2:02.69) rounded out the top three in the finale. Jeremy Bagshaw cruised to victory in the men’s 200-meter free with a 1:48.72. A full second behind, Stefan Milosevic took second in 1:49.73 with Aly Abdel-Khalik finishing third in 1:50.13.

Dominique Bouchard edged Kennedy Goss in the women’s 100-meter back with a 1:01.65 to 1:01.91 victory. Samantha Corea picked up a second podium with a third-place 1:02.22. Adam Best won the men’s 100-meter back in 56.35 with Jeffrey Swanston taking second in 56.48. Matthew Myers finished third in 56.77.

Ashley McGregor raced to a 2:27.18 to win the women’s 200-meter breast. Rachel Nicol turned in a 2:29.16 for second, while Tianna Rissling placed third in 2:30.69. Ashton Baumann hit the wall in 2:16.43 to win the men’s 200-meter breast. James Guest placed just behind with a 2:16.98, while Antoine Bujold picked up third in 2:17.24.

Samantha Harding grabbed the women’s 1500-meter freestyle title in 16:37.02 with Sophie Saroukian placing second with a 16:58.25, while Tessa Cieplucha pocketed third in 17:01.73.

DAY TWO
Caroline Lapierre-Lemire moved from third in the 50 fly on day one to winning the 100-meter free on day two with a 55.93. Ariane Mainville checked in with a second-place 56.18 with Paige Schultz finishing third in 56.20. Jeremy Bagshaw, the day one winner in the 200-meter free, clinched the 100-meter free title in 50.49. Stefan Milosevic took second in the finale as well with a 50.60, while Hassaan Abdel-Khalik snatched third overall in 50.82.

Fiona Doyle clipped Rachel Nichol in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke finale, 1:08.81 to 1:08.89. Ashley McGregor, meanwhile, checked in with a third-place effort of 1:09.51. Sergey Holson claimed the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:02.53. Antoine Bujold finished second just behind in 1:02.76, while Matthew Ackman snared third in 1:02.83 in what was a close final three finish.

Mary-Sophie Harvey clinched the women’s 400-meter IM title in 4:50.79 with Samantha Harding taking second in 4:51.39. Vanessa Treasure claimed third in the distance medley with a 4:51.96. Alec Page followed with a 4:20.11 to win the men’s 400-meter IM going away. Tristan Cote took second in 4:26.13 with Hochan Ryu claiming third in 4:27.41.

Marie-Pier Couillard topped the women’s 50-meter back in 28.86 with Danielle Hanus earning second in 28.92. Dominique Bouchard raced to third in 29.02. Jeffrey Swanston placed first in the men’s 50-meter back in 26.05. Kyle Haas (26.32) and Matthew Swanston (26.36) rounded out the top three.
