Brazil’s Queen of Swimming Fabiola Molina Set to Retire at 38

SAO PAULO, Brazil, October 25. ONE of the top female swimmers in Brazilian history has called it a career as 38-year-old Fabiola Molina held a press conference today to announce her retirement according to Swimming World Brazilian correspondent Alex Pussieldi.

Molina, who has the most national titles in Brazilian swimming history, represented her country three times at the Olympics in 2000, 2008 and 2012. She earned five Pan American medals as well as finished with a bronze in the 50 back at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships as well as a silver in the 100 back at the 1997 World University Games.

She finished her career having set seven different South American records in her time.

Molina’s top efforts all occurred at the Olympics. In her first attempt at the 2000 Sydney Games, she took 24th in the 100 back. She returned in 2008 in Beijing by helping Brazil to 10th in the 400 medley relay, and broke the South American record in the 100 back during prelims with a 1:00.71 as the relay leadoff. She returned at the 2012 London Games to take 24th in the 100 back.
