Brittany MacLean shot down a Canadian record in the women's 400-meter freestyle event with a 4:06.08. That performance smashed Brittany Reimer's 2005 record of 4:07.32 set at the World Championships, and moved MacLean to 34th all time in the event. She also jumped to ninth in the world rankings, and secured her spot on the Olympic roster with a FINA A cut. Savannah King also cleared the FINA A cut of 4:09.35 with a 4:07.02 to place second. That swim also bettered the previous national record, and improved her to 13th in the world.

Alexa Komarnycky was the hard-luck finisher with a third-place time of 4:08.67, that would have earned her a spot as a FINA A cut if not for taking third. Barbara Jardin (4:09.80), Samantha Cheverton (4:11.22), Lindsay Delmar (4:11.24), Sherry Liu (4:16.39) and Bridget Coley (4:18.40) also swam in the finale.
