Paul Le Wins Third Event, Missouri Claims Team Title On Final Night Of Columbia Sectionals

COLUMBIA, Missouri, July 19. PAUL Le won his third individual event of the meet and the University of Missouri wrapped up the team title tonight in Columbia as the Speedo Champions Series Region VIII sectional meet came to a close at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.

Springfield Aquatics’ Bailee Nunn left the rest of the field in her wake in the opening event, taking the women’s 200 IM title in dominant fashion with a 2:18.19. Greater Nebraska’s Caroline Theil held onto her second place seed from this morning with a 2:20.93, while Brittany Hammond of Missouri rounded out the top three in 2:21.19. Missouri State’s Paul Le, already a winner of the 100 and 200 back earlier in the meet, earned a second individual title with a 2:04.79 in the men’s 200 IM. Indie Swimming’s Michael Andrew dropped almost two seconds from his prelim time to take second in 2:05.51, while Igor Kozlovskij of Missouri rounded out the top three in 2:06.17.

Taryn Collura of Club Huskers proved to be the fastest woman in the pool tonight with a 26.17 in the 50 free, good enough for her first win of the meet. Missouri’s Lauren Votava, who was going for the triple after winning the 100 and 200 free, settled for second in 26.31, while her teammate Anna Patterson rounded out the top three in 26.32. Matthew Margritier of Missouri topped the men’s field with a 23.20, with Le rebounding from his IM win to finish second in 23.33. Jacob Molacek of Greater Omaha took third in 23.41.

Taylor Pike of Razorback Aquatic Club took home the women’s 1500 free crown by a sizable margin, winning by 21 seconds with a 16:52.37. Genevieve Pfeifer of Flyers Aquatic Swim Team came in second with a 17:13.05, while Lauren Jordan of Arkansas touched third in 17:19.17. The men’s distance free title went to Arkansas Dolphins’ Minki Kang, who stopped the clock in 15:53.45. Kang also won by 21 seconds, as Kansas City Blazers’ Louis Behnen got to the wall second in 16:14.30. Ryan Baker of Rec Plex touched third in 16:21.61.

Rebekah Land, Samantha Hardewig, Bria Deveaux and Taryn Collura gave Club Huskers a win in the women’s 400 medley relay with a 4:18.06, while the Kansas City Blazers team of Haley Hynes, Bryce Hinde, Rilye Fries and Hannah Musser touched a second and a half back in 4:19.50. The Club Huskers B squad of Jacqueline Juffer, Katherine Ditter, Natalie Morris and Katarina Sickle rounded out the top three in 4:20.35. Missouri State claimed the men’s relay with Paul Le, Uldis Tazans, Matthew Wilson and William Schuermann taking first in 3:47.64. Sean Feher, Phillip Willett, Nicholas Davis and Jonathan Glaser touched second in 3:55.10, while Christopher Hearl, Michael Glenn, Philip Musser and Jesse Musser placed third in 3:55.49.

Missouri won the team title with 794 points, ahead of the Kansas City Blazers (692) and Club Huskers (460). Missouri (458 points) and Club Huskers (460 points) won the men’s and women’s team titles, respectively.
