Hannah Moore Wins Third Event At Greensboro Sectionals

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, July 19. HANNAH Moore of YMCA of the Triangle Area picked up her third individual win of the meet during the third night of finals at the Speedo Champions Series sectional meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Moore kicked off the third night of finals with her third individual title of the meet, adding a victory in the 400 free to her earlier wins in the 800 free and 400 IM. She completed the race in 4:13.53 to out-distance Tennessee Aquatics’ Mary Griffith (4:15.43) and Kentucky’s Kendal Casey (4:15.89). In the men’s 400 free final, Kentucky swept the top three spots, with Scott Crosthwaite (3:56.74) and Brandon Flynn (3:56.86) finishing only .12 apart. Andrew Aviotti rounded out the top three in 3:59.32.

Kentucky kept the ball rolling with another win, this time in the women’s 100 fly. Christina Bechtel topped the field in 59.74, with SwimMAC Carolina’s Elsa Welshofer right behind in another sub-1:00 swim of 59.76. Kentucky’s Abby Myers placed third in 1:00.57. Wolfpack Elite’s Soeren Dahl claimed the men’s 100 fly victory by just over three tenths, in 53.13. Kyler VanSwol of Tennessee Aquatics touched second in 53.45, followed by David Williams of Wolfpack Elite in 53.77.

Molly Hannis of Tennessee Aquatics grabbed the women’s 100 breast title tonight with the only sub-1:10 swim of the meet at 1:09.47. That time fell .03 outside her morning swim but was still almost a second better than second place finisher Kayla Brumbaum of Wolfpack Elite (1:10.44). Rachel Canty of North Carolina Aquatic Club came in third with a 1:11.41. Bradley Craig gave Tennessee Aquatics a sweep of the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.88 in the men’s final, which is the fastest time by an American man in 2014. Kameron Chastain of Cardinal Aquatics came in second in 1:02.61, while George Greenhalgh of Kentucky snuck in for third at 1:03.71.

Lakeside’s quartet of Cameron Brown, Monica McGrath, Bryn Handley and Asia Seidt had the fastest 800 free relay of the night with an 8:27.82, about three seconds in front of the Lakeside B team of Brooke Forde, Ashley LeClair, Kimberly Zehnder and Brooke Bauer (8:30.59). Kristie Darmody, Lauren Wallace, Catherine Maxey and Elsa Welshofer gave SwimMAC Carolina a third place finish with an 8:31.80. Meanwhile, SwimMAC Carolina won the men’s race with Evan Heldman, Tian Li, Bailey Burt and Austin Snyder posting a time of 7:47.20. Marlins of Raleigh, led by Justin Ress, Steven Craig, Adam Linker and Collier Cobb, came in second with a 7:49.95. Heyward Harrison, Tyler Sullivan, Noah Johnston and Trey Hubbuch gave Lakeside a third place swim at 7:51.28.
