Reece Whitley Clips Michael Andrew’s 13-14 100 Breast National Age Group Record

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, July 18. JUST two days after obliterating the boys 13-14 200-meter breaststroke national age group record at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships, 14-year-old Reece Whitley was at it again in the 100-meter breast.

Tonight, Whitley raced his way to a 1:03.82 (30.46, 33.36), for the open title in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. That performance undercut Michael Andrew’s record from earlier this year by the slimmest of margins as Andrew turned in a 1:03.83 in the consolation heat of the event at the Austin stop of the Arena Grand Prix. That swim had beaten a 20-year-old record of 1:04.74 set by Anthony Robinson back in 1994. Andrew split his race 30.28, 33.55.

Two days ago, Whitley posted a time of 2:16.48 in the 200-meter breaststroke to smash his previous record of 2:19.74 set back in June at the TYR Bolles Summer Invitational.
