Jessica Theilmann Posts Quick Mile, Trinity Prep Clears Relay Marks In Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida, July 10. JESSICA Theilmann cracked the top 10 in the world in the women’s 1500 free, while Trinity Prep Aquatics took down two state relay records during the first night of action at the Southern Zone Section Summer Sectionals at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.

Gator Swim Club’s Jessica Theilmann picked up the first victory of the night with a commanding win in the women’s 1500 free. Theilmann touched in 16:15.74, a personal best by four seconds and more than 35 seconds in front of Saint Petersburg Aquatics’ Ariel Finke, who came in at 16:51.86. Theilmann’s time ranks ninth in the world this year. Katie Ledecky holds the top time of course after setting a world record of 15:34.23 a few weeks ago. Melissa Marinheiro of South Florida swam a 17:06.27 to finish third in the race. Meanwhile, Germantown Academy’s Arthur Frayler swam away with the men’s 800 free title. Frayler touched in 8:12.70 to outdistance SFTL’s Ryan Rosenbaum (8:16.64) and Scarlet Aquatics’ Eric Stobbe (8:19.75).

Timed finals of the men’s and women’s 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays capped the evening. T2 Aquatics’ foursome of Elisa Haan, Justine Bowker, Kayla Tennant and Abigail Garner took home the women’s medley relay win in 1:58.57. South Florida’s Marcella Marinheiro, Alia Atkinson, Maria Lopez and Olivia Katcher claimed second in the event in 1:59.09, boosted by a 30.56 breaststroke split from Atkinson. Allison Parent, Isabella English, Claire Maiococco and Caroline White gave Trinity Prep a third place finish in the event with a 1:59.47. With that swim, Trinity Prep broke the Florida LSC record for the girls’ 15-16 age group, which previously stood at 2:02.18. Heather Coutts, Alyssa Bodin, Nelle Glasser and Stacey Stanfield of the Bolles Sharks set that record in 2009.

Westminster Academy had the top time in the men’s relay as Daniel Robbins, Gregory Penny, Anthony Barbar and Logan Lassley combined efforts to post a 1:43.77. Matthew Curby, Jason Coombs, Thaxter Hensley and Quinn Poti gave Blue Dolfins a second place finish in the race with a 1:44.83. Saint Andrew’s rounded out the top three with Ramon Walton, Quinn Cassidy, Kevin Matheus and Brody Heck posting a 1:45.62.

Saint Andrew’s quartet of Mckenna Keith, Brenna Ruth, Darby Goodwin and Megan Moroney touched first in the women’s 200 free relay in 1:47.37. Julia Kudryashova, Meghan Kiely, Joanna Wu and Cynthia Wu of Scarlet Aquatics claimed second in 1:48.64, ahead of Golden Panther Aquatics’ Rebecca Wilde, Nadia Farrugia, Jessica Chadwick and Johanna Gustafsdottir (1:48.91). Trinity Prep’s foursome of Maiococco, White, Parent and English added a second Florida 15-16 record with their sixth place finish of 1:49.62. That lowered Saint Petersburg Aquatics’ 2006 record of 1:50.96.

Westminster Academy swept the men’s relays as Daniel Robbins, Logan Lassley, Anthony Barbar and Andrew Halliburton topped the 200 free relay in 1:33.80, just a hair ahead of Saint Andrew’s Gage Kohner, Brody Heck, Kevin Matheus and Quinn Cassidy (1:33.93). Blue Dolfins’ Jason Coombs, Quinn Poti, Thaxter Hensley and Matthew Curby came in third in 1:35.24 to conclude the first evening of racing.
