National Age Group Record Holder Justin Lynch Stays in Bay Area With Commitment to Cal Golden Bears

VALLEJO, California, November 15. NATIONAL age group record holder Justin Lynch will sign a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of California-Berkeley, just a short drive from his current training grounds in Concord with the Terrapins Swim Team.

Lynch’s future teammates broke the news on Twitter a short time ago.

Lynch will look to keep Cal’s butterfly legacy alive, a history that dates back to Matt Biondi in the 1980s, Mark Henderson in the 1990s, Milorad Cavic in the early 2000s, and most recently with Tom Shields.

Lynch made headlines this past summer when he broke Michael Phelps’ national age group record in the 100-meter butterfly with a 52.75. He’s also very talented in the 200 butterfly, posting a lifetime best 1:57.80 at this summer’s junior national championships. His breakout summer could translate into some great short course yards swimming and improve on his 47.27 and 1:45.18 that stand as his lifetime bests in that format.

Lynch was a member of Team USA at the junior world championships in Dubai, where he tied for the bronze medal in the 100 fly with Matt Josa.
